Summer is over and the hours of sunlight are getting shorter – it’s the ideal time to make your face look more youthful! In this post, we answer some of the most frequently asked questions about facial rejuvenation using intense pulsed light (IPL) laser treatment.
What is IPL laser treatment used for?
In general, IPL treatments can help to:
- Improve or remove marks and spots caused by the sun and age. These brown spots appear on the face, neck, chest, hands and other areas of the body.
- Reduce redness, dilated blood vessels and spider veins.
- Enhance the texture of the skin by stimulating collagen production, and improve pore size by temporarily reducing fat.
IPL treatments cause very little discomfort and have very few unwanted side effects.
How many laser photorejuvenation sessions should I have?
The treatment usually consists of 3 to 5 sessions at intervals of 4 to 6 weeks, followed by two annual maintenance sessions.
When will I start seeing an improvement after the laser photorejuvenation treatment?
In general, the full effects of the treatment take between 3 to 5 months to appear: that is, after 3 to 5 sessions carried out at 4-week intervals. However, improvements can be seen after each session.
The more damaged the skin is by the effect of sun or aging, the more sessions the patient will need before seeing improvements. In fact, some cases of severe redness or brown spots require more than 5 sessions; usually there’s a gradual improvement over the treatment period.
What should I do before starting the treatment?
Sunbathing should be avoided in the two weeks before each session. That’s why it’s advisable to have this therapy outside the summer months. We also recommend protecting the skin from the sun with sunscreen once the therapy is over.
Some medications are incompatible with this treatment: be sure to tell your doctor about all the medications you are taking.
